Community Garden

From a young age, we all learn that there is something inherently rewarding about growing our food from seed into nutritious produce. Our garden is truly a community garden.  We have enjoyed seeing people of all ages, from all over greater Cincinnati share this common interest. It gives us great pleasure and satisfaction to see that all our effort to preserve this property for the community is now providing the venue for these lasting memories and life lessons.

Our land was successfully farmed for almost 200 years. Soybeans and corn were grown here until 2003 with very high yields.  It was an easy decision to develop the first community garden in Milford in the same rich soil. We modified and improved the soils with organic leaf compost and manure to optimize yields.  In the first year, the garden brought 30 people together.  Gardeners came from more than 20 miles away each day for the soil, animal protection and irrigation at our garden. Cub Scouts from Pack 140 at Cardinal Pacelli School in Mt. Lookout worked in the extra garden plots to grow produce that they sold at the Mt. Lookout Farmer's Market throughout the summer. The scouts learned about where food comes from, the importance of hard work and the reward of growing something and sharing it with citizens in their community.

Located at the southern end of our property, our gardens offer the benefit of rich soil, full sun, 8’ deer fencing and three irrigation options including a fully automated system sourced from the abundant aquifer directly underground.  Plots are approximately 5’x20’ in size.  Today, more than 60 individuals, families and friends enjoy planting, growing and harvesting a variety of fresh vegetables, fruits and flowers throughout the year.  No spaces available.
