The small but mighty groups of volunteers that keep Valley View moving forward have done a tremendous amount of work. There are continual projects for land management including clearing brush, mowing, responding to the effects of bad weather, planting trees and grasses just to name a few. Larger projects have included: clearing a picnic area, installation of aesthetic fencing to create a gateway, new signage and landscaping, and certainly the extensive structural work to the Tobacco Barn as well as the addition of electricity. Today, we have materials staged and are ready for the progress to continue in ’09.
Our strategic plan includes both long and short term goals, tasks that are easily achieved as well as some that are most ambitious. We would like to improve access, add trail markers, picnic areas, benches, and possibly elevated platforms. A community garden, historical/archeological programs, finalizing the Tobacco Barn and complete renovation of the Dairy Barn are all on the list as well. Funding and volunteers are the key to turning ideas/hopes into reality. We will continue to work diligently to identify both public and private funds we may be eligible to receive. Building our membership will bring additional financial and volunteer resources as well as new energy and additional talent to our family of dedicated volunteers.
